Futures Unlimited, Inc., offers
a full range of services for eligible children from birth through five
years of age. Children who have a disability or who are at risk of a disability;
or children of families who are experiencing significant income limitations
can benefit from our comprehensive, community based services and supports.
Early Head Start
Services
Early Head Start provides support to income eligible families from pre-birth
until the child is three years of age, with transition services to age
four. Services are comprehensive, intensive, individualized, and flexible
according to child and family needs, and integrated with community child
care and other service delivery systems. The program design and operations
are developed and carried out within the framework of the Head Start Performance
Standards which include specific provisions for services to pregnant women,
infants and toddlers, and family members. Emphasis is placed on prevention,
early intervention, safety, and health education.
Head Start
As part of our comprehensive program for children ages birth through five;
Futures provides both half and full day preschool classes for children
ages 3 to 5 years of age who are eligible for Head Start. Children who
attend our preschool programs receive healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy
playing inside and outside in a safe setting. Children receive health
screenings and follow-up care as needed. Head Start also helps low-income
parents develop the skills and knowledge they need to build better lives
for their children and themselves. Direct involvement in planning and
policy-making gives parents a greater role in their children's development.
Our preschool has been recognized by the Kansas Department
of Education for the exemplary practices in the areas of integrated service
delivery and collaboration.
Infant/Toddler
Services
Our Infant/Toddler Program, as part of the statewide Tiny-K network, gives parents the support and assistance needed with early
intervention for infants and toddlers with disabilities from birth through
2 years of age. First contact is often made before the child leaves the
hospital. Futures is the lead agency for a consortium of a "local
network" of organizations who come together as the Sumner County
Interagency Coordinating Council. The ICC works to help assure comprehensive
and effective services are available throughout the County.
Preschool Services
for Children with Special Needs
For young children with disabilities ages 3 to 5 years old living within
the Wellington School District, Futures offers preschool services
in an integrated community based setting. With professional services provided
by certified teaching staff, physical therapists, occupational therapists,
and speech therapists, children are prepared for a smooth transition to
kindergarten when the time is right.
Parents as Teachers
Futures, through an agreement between local school districts,
provides for this voluntary program for all families based on the belief
that parents are their children's first and most influential teachers.
With support available for all families with children from birth to five
years regardless of income; a program of routine home visits from our
professional staff, informational newsletters, playground, and parent
meetings can be tailored to meet each family's needs.
