Who We Are
Futures
Unlimited is a not-for-profit organization supporting adults with disabilities
and young children and families living in Sumner County Kansas. We're the single
point of entry to a locally responsive system that:
- is
seamless from birth to death
- respects
personal preferences while addressing individual needs
- is
delivered through community efforts
- emphasizes
the earliest possible intervention and prevention strategies
- is
reflective of best practice
Our
Core Values
We
champion inclusion:
- Embracing
diversity
- Focusing
on ability
We
champion empowerment:
- Believing
in support without dependence
- Believing
in the right to risk failure
We
champion opportunity:
- Acknowledging
dreams
- Promoting
personal growth and responsibility
Our
Guiding Principles
- The
individuals we serve have the right and should have the opportunity
to participate in all aspects of community life. Promoting inclusion
without prejudice is our highest priority.
- Vocational
opportunities should be available based on individual needs and choices
that are consistent with the community work ethic.
- The
individuals we serve have the right to risk failure in the challenges
of everyday life. We believe dignity is related to the ability to try
to be self-sufficient. Recognizing the importance of personal growth,
we promote opportunity for progression through our services.
- We
believe in the concept of self-advocacy and empowerment. We will advocate
for those who can't, and promote awareness and acceptance of individual
needs and differences. We invite opportunities to tell our story and
raise awareness for the services we offer.
- We
believe intervention should occur at the earliest possible time to prevent
or minimize adverse effects in a person's life. We believe in the sanctity
of the family, and encourage the participation and involvement of family
members.
- We
strive to be champions of the persons we serve. We will emphasize effective
recruitment, compensation, training and retention of qualified staff
and work hard to build a culture in which fun and enthusiasm are contagious.
- As
good stewards, we recognize the resources entrusted to us are largely
public in nature and should be managed efficiently with strong accountability
and emphasis on best practices.
- All
individuals and families should have access to available resources that
meet their needs and preferences. This includes quality housing.
- We
affirm and support state and federal legislation protecting human and
legal rights.
- Coordination,
cooperation, and collaboration are essential elements of the community
service network. As a dynamic service organization, we will regularly
examine community need.
- We
promote personal responsibility on the part of parents, staff, and persons
served.
