Employee summer walking contest back for third year thanks to sponsors

June 2010 - The third annual Futures Walkabout began in May and concludes in July. It encourages activity and exercise with our employees and the individuals we serve over the summer by setting monthly step goals to earn prizes at the end of each month.

We have found when we help our employees be healthier – they are better health mentors to the adults and children we serve in our various programs! This has been something we have been striving toward since the start of our Take it to Heart campaign in 2008 which is an initiative to promote health and wellness. And new to the Walkabout this year, is a Biggest Loser competition.

Those who participated last year collectively walked over 20,000 miles and burned an estimated 2 million calories in the process. In a survey conducted after last year’s Walkabout, 90% of participants reported they increased their physical activity because of the Walkabout. Almost 50% saw an increase they deemed as significant and 78% of participants said they planned to continue their new health habits they began because of the Walkabout.

Without a doubt, our Walkabout is promoting healthy change within our organization.
