December 2013 - As the annual Futures Staff Holiday Party drew to a close, Tom Kohmetscher, Futures' president/CEO invited the audience to direct their attend to the video screen for the final award of the night. Several members of the award recipient's family filed into the back of the American Legion to watch the video which would reveal Terry Horsch, Futures maintenance supervisor, had won the award.
The video featured a heart-warming synopsis of the kind of person Matthew Washington was when he was alive and how he worked at Futures procuring contracts for the individuals with disabilities that Futures supports so they could learn work skills and earn a paycheck. It wasn't just the job Matthew did at Futures, but it was the way he went about his daily work. Matthew knew how to have fun, worked with passion and believed whole-heartedly in the mission of Futures. These traits are what Futures seeks to keep alive by giving out a Matthew Washington Award each year to an individual nominated by Futures employees.
Terry Horsch was selected because of his commitment to Futures and the people served by Futures and the joy he brings to others as he goes about his daily work. He exudes the spirit of Matthew Washington in his interactions with others and his efforts that go above and beyond his job description.
We invite you to view the video which features several Futures employees and a few of Terry's friends explaining why he won this award.
