Family fun is an important component to all our programs ages 0-5. For families enrolled in Early Head Start, home visitors involve families in fun activities to promote their little one’s growth and development. They follow Frog Street’s Love & Learn Curriculum – Birth to Three. For example, early childhood professionals may use a lesson plan that details age-appropriate homemade painting fun with a list of creative painting projects to involve the whole family. Activities may include making the paint, finding and using homemade objects for brushes and completing art projects using finger paint or shaker paint.
Additionally, Early Head Start families are invited to monthly play group experiences and outings in the community including Calvary Lutheran Church, Futures playground and the Wellington Family Aquatic Center.
While these in-person home visits and activities are discontinued for now, we will continually assess the situation and make determinations that have the health and safety of children, families and staff members held to the highest priority.
Early Head Start families are invited to monthly play group experiences and outings in the community including Calvary Lutheran Church, Futures discovery playground and the Wellington Family Aquatic Center. Day-time and evening play groups are offered to suit a family’s schedule and include snacks or meals for the whole family.
For families enrolled in preschool, parents and siblings are encouraged to be part of numerous family events, often involving outdoor fun and food. Family involvement is welcome in all of our programs.
Child Check is a free developmental screening for children ages 0-5 to check a child's learning, speaking, moving, seeing and hearing skills. Checks are completed by early childhood professionals and therapists.
Since all children develop differently, parents may wonder if their child is on the right track.
If a child needs further evaluation, a referral will be made to the appropriate service.
Child Checks are held regularly at the Futures Unlimited Family Support Center at 15 Industrial Ave, Wellington, KS. See upcoming Child Check dates, click here.
Checks are provided at no cost and by appointment only.

We regularly invite the whole family into the programs we offer to support the family’s well-being through health and safety as well as promote parent leadership and advocacy. This all comes together beautifully to support a child’s development and readiness for school.
The discovery playground at Futures Unlimited, Inc. was built on the “recognition that children grow healthier, wiser, and more content when they are more fully connected throughout their childhood to the natural environment in as many educational and recreational settings as possible. These benefits are long term and significant and contribute to their future wellbeing and the contributions they will make to the world as adults”– Nature Action Collaborative for Children (NACC) at: www.worldforumfoundation.org/nature.
Our playground features a multi-faceted play structure, hill slide, climbing apparatuses, tricycles with a paved riding track, sand play, outdoor musical instruments, and space to run giving children a unique outdoor learning experience.

The teachers work in partnership with parents and community partners to support a child’s learning and development.
This is such an exciting time of learning for 3-5 year olds. Each day the child builds upon the previous day’s learning. Because a child gains at such a fast rate at this age, we have built in “check points” to measure their progress throughout their year and gauge their school readiness. It’s a great way to measure and share with parents the ways their child has grown during their time at preschool and show how it benefits them as they continue on their journey toward kindergarten.
